I often meet a customer when the problem is clear but the solution is not. My job is to understand the workflow, bring necessary decisions into the open and turn the need into clear software requirements for developers. I have done this in customer projects, integrations and product development.

Understand the problem with its users

One example is a mobile service process, where I clarified the requirements with the customer and led the development, while the customer's managers led their own staff. Another is the order flow integrations at an online plant retailer. In both cases, the work had to fit systems and people that were already there. That is how I prefer to work: understand the context, choose the right task and let the specialists solve it.

Make the necessary decisions

At Modified Solutions, many of the tasks were project-based, from specification and planning to implementation. I have prioritised development work together with a partner, developers and a Product Owner. On the customer side, I have worked with the people who decided on needs, capacity and quality. Those conversations can matter more to the result than a polished project plan. A team cannot resolve a disagreement that nobody has taken responsibility for clarifying.

Give specialists a clear task

I am happy to go deep into architecture, backend and operations, because I need to understand the consequences of our decisions. But I want the technical choices to be made close to the people who know the area best. When technical considerations and business needs pull in different directions, my job is to bring the options into the open and take responsibility for the prioritisation together with the right people.

That approach suits a company with many ideas but limited capacity. I can help turn the ideas into understandable choices: what should be solved first, what needs more clarification, and who owns the delivery from here? My experience lies in making that work concrete before we promise more than the organisation can deliver.
