For an online plant retailer, I worked on automating the order flow between its webshop, finance system and suppliers. The task was to make information move with the order across several systems, giving staff one coherent workflow. I started with the business process and the technical connections it required.
The need across systems
What information is created in the webshop? What decisions does it require afterwards? What has to be exchanged with suppliers and the finance system? Those are the questions I ask before we decide where an integration should sit. That way, the technology becomes part of a coherent workflow rather than a collection of connections that only the developers understand.
My role and the documented outcome
We worked on a connected order flow between the webshop, finance system and suppliers. I started with the existing process and helped define how data should move between systems. The case shows my experience connecting a business workflow with the developers' integration work.
Standard software or integration
In many companies, the choice is not simply whether a new feature can be programmed. It is whether a standard product, a configuration or a targeted integration gives the most value overall. I have worked on weighing custom development against established systems with the total cost in mind. That responsibility is relevant for companies that run several platforms and want them to support one business.
If you have an order flow that requires repeated manual handling or depends on employees moving data between systems, I can help define the task and lead the collaboration on the solution. I start from the process and the people who will use it, and give the specialists a clear problem to solve.
