Role profile

Engineering Manager focused on people and delivery

Developers need clear goals, professional ownership and plans that still work when priorities change. At Modified Solutions, I led developers, hired colleagues and protected time for learning while delivering customer software. As an Engineering Manager, I can take responsibility for priorities and the conversation with the business, so specialists know what needs to succeed and have room to choose how to build it.

Relevant experience for the Engineering Manager role

At Modified Solutions, I built a business with up to 16 employees and led developers directly and through a partner responsible for daily management. My remit included recruitment, development conversations, capacity and delivery. We generally booked 80 percent of available time for customer work, leaving room for unexpected demands and learning. I have also led developers remotely. This has given me practical experience in combining individual ownership with clear expectations and accessible support in everyday work.

People leadership and growth

I want people to develop their skills and feel confident taking responsibility. I have given developers autonomy over technical choices, reserved time every other Friday for learning and knowledge sharing, and held conversations covering work and wellbeing. Average employee tenure was four to five years, with several staying much longer. Their recommendations highlight my accessibility, trust and willingness to listen. That is the kind of working relationship I want to build with my next team.

AI, quality and learning

My background in backend systems, databases, APIs, architecture and operations helps me have substantive technical conversations with developers. I can help clarify dependencies and agree priorities with the team. I have also trained developers to use AI for analysis, task breakdown, implementation and review. We estimated that AI made development about 50 percent faster in many tasks, including review and checking. Engineering responsibility and testing remained with us, making quality control part of the working method.
